Welcome to my blog! My name is Virginia Rodriguez, I am twenty-years-old and I am from the Dominican Republic. I am currently a sophomore at Creighton University, and my major is Journalism, with the hopes of one day to work in a fashion magazine.
I am taking the Introduction to Mass Communication Technology class because an advisor recommended it to me and because I want to expand my knowledge of journalism and learn more of the media.
I can say that I am really involved with media. I have had a Tumblr for almost six years; here my love for fashion has grown over the years, but the website not only has enlightened me with my passion but also with things that are happening around the world. Instagram has also been a big part of my life since I spend a lot of time on it. I also have a Twitter and Facebook but I do not use these two as frequently.
I usually get my news and information from the websites that I already mentioned, and from an app called “News” from Apple. This app makes it really easy to have all the newspapers and magazines that I like reading in just one place.
Technology is really important for me since I spend a lot of the time on my phone and my computer. I have become so dependent on my phone, that I have to do everything with it.
News media is really important because it lets us all know what is happening really fast. I learned from another Journalism class that when news media started to use the internet, it helped a lot of newspapers because they could post on the Internet an event that just happened, and as they got more information, they could add it without any problems and keep readers informed.
What is good about news media and journalists is that they make the world know what is

happening right at the moment. Without them, people would not even know what is happening in their own city!
What really frustrates me about news media is that sometimes the information may come out in the wrong way. Sometimes journalists do not write the information as it was given to them or they misinterpret the information given to them.
I took some programming classes in high school where I learned how to make programs for businesses to help with their inventory and bills, with a programming language called “C Sharp.”
What most concerns me about a world so involved with media is how everyone, including myself, is missing out on so many things. People would rather be on their phones rather than spending time with their family and friends. There is so much going on around the world and a lot of people miss out because they are not paying attention to what is happening.
Even though there are a lot of disadvantages of using the media so frequently, a benefit is that people are in the know. A lot can be learned from the media because it is really vast and helpful.
Thank you for reading!
