“Did you hear that on the radio?”

I remember being 10 or 11 years old and getting fascinated and excited when someone told me something new, something that I did not know; news. My love for learning new things and knowing what is happening has grown since then. Now I am Journalism major at Creighton University and I cannot feel happier about my decision for choosing this career path.

The way we get information has changed a lot since the first news was announced. The change from oral communication to written communication might have been a shock to several, but a big step forward for humanity. In chapters one through three of the book “Blur” by Bill Kovach and Tom Rosenstiel shows how the way we get information has changed through the years.

I believe that the radio has been a big good change in the communication world. Not only because we can listen to music in our cars, cell phones or computers, but also because we can be in the know.

I remember getting out of English class, and on the way home listening to the local news radio station. Not only I knew what was happening in my hometown, but also, I learned things that I did not know before listening to it at that moment. I really like the radio because it does not matter what time of the day it is, if something happened, it would be broadcasted immediately. Another big advantage of the radio is that it is really accessible, nowadays the majority of people have a radio.

Not only radio is a big improvement. Later on came the television and newspapers. The radio lets us hear what is happening but the television lets us see what is happening. This past December, Joaquin Guzman also known as “El Chapo Guzman” was recaptured. Immediately as he was captured, it was all over the news, and thanks to the television people could see that this was actually true.

Newspapers let the world read about the news. This was also a big improvement because we can get the news in a physical form every day. I really like this media because we get all types of news from a newspaper; from politics to art, everyone’s taste is satisfied. And now with newspapers online it is even better because we cannot only read the news in paper but also read them on electronic devices.

I think that it is impressive how much communication has improved over the years. There are more different types of communication but in my opinion, I think that these are by far the best ones. We get to hear, see and read different types of information. I never thought that communication would be such a big part of my life, and know that it is like that I do not know what I would do without it.
